Las Salinas is a salt lagoon between the Arenal-Bol and La Fossa beaches. For centuries people collected salt here — today it is a protected home for birds.
The salty water is full of tiny brine shrimp. Flamingos filter them out with their special upside-down beaks, and that food is what turns their feathers pink.
